How rude of me. I suppose I should explain my meld calculating program.

Step 1: Enter a 20-card hand via the Hand Creator section.
The Meld Calculator section will update as the Hand Creator section is changed.
This is done one of three ways:
Subsection #1 - (Manual Entry) Type 'A', 'T', 'K', 'Q', or 'J' into the desired suit input fields.
Subsection #2 - (Manual Entry) Click on the desired card images.
Subsection #3 - (Automated Entry) Click the 'Generate New Random Hand' button.

Step 2: Declare the trump suit in the Trump Selector section.
This feature will adjust the meld score in the Meld Calculator section upon any change.
*Yes, I know every hand has a trump declared. The Undeclared option is to be referenced for counting meld before bidding is concluded / a trump is declared.

Step 3: Establish the scoring chart that you will use via the Scorechart Selector section.
This feature, like the Trump Selector, will adjust the meld score in the Meld Calculator section upon any change.

Some additional notes:
*The Meld Calculator will not update the meld score unless the hand is 20 cards long.

*In the Hand Creator section, regardless of the Subsection that you initially used to enter your hand, if you wish to:
Delete a card - backspace or delete the card @ Subsection #1.
Add a card - key it in @ Subsection #1 or click it @ Subsection #2.

*The Permalink in the Meld Calculator section provides a way to save the current hand in hyperlink form, in case you would like to share or discuss a particular occurrence of cards. (This feature has a couple of bugs for me to work out.)

It is a very nice hand generator. But as a novice, how do I know my meld cunt is correct?

Then your hand and the meld count will show on the right of your screen. If you want to count for yourself the entire meld chart is on the bottom left of the screen (you may have to scroll down). Let me know if you have any further questions or problems.

I see the hand but no meld count is displayed.

I have Javascript enabled on PowerPinochle.

Thank you Rick! It seems you have found a flaw in our calculator. It looks like if you don't have all four suits in a hand it won't calculate. We will have to fix this flaw. Thanks again!

That's a bit of a hasty response. Were you able to duplicate the error rakbeater? The program is purposely equipped to handle a quadruple run which means 20 cards of one suit.

I was unable to duplicate the error. The meld calculating program only requires 20 cards to trigger the calculation, nothing more is considered. I just entered the same hand
by:
+typing the card values in the suit fields (Subsection #1), and that triggered and calculated normally.
+clicking on the card images (Subsection #2) and the program acted appropriately.
+creating a Permalink and then loading it into the address bar, which worked as well. http://www.powerpinochle.com/meld.php?ha...=C&chart=0

Perhaps it was a glitch page load and a reload of the page would have corrected. Richard are you able to reproduce the break today? If so, can you give me more details on how you are operating the program? This program should be cross-browser compatible, but perhaps you could tell me what browser/version you are using as well.

p.s. One thing that I will change, when I find time, is for the Meld Calculator Section to clear when there are not 20 cards selected. Currently, if you enter 20 cards and then delete one, the 20 card meld score is retained. It shouldn't take too long to write. We'll see.

And the "Generate New Random Hand" button seems to do nothing.
The heading for the Trump Selector & Scorechart Selector panes do not update when a new selection is made.

That doesn't look like my Firefox browser. Are you on Chrome? or Safari? Sounds like none of the javascripting is operational for your browser.
