Learning how to play Pinochle
#1
Rainbow
Hi,

I'm from France, where Pinochle is totally unknown. I am used to playing a game played here in France, which is called Tarot, and I also play Belote and Rami.
I am attracted to this game of Pinochle because it seems quite exciting, because it is based on bidding, melding and wining tricks : a kind mixture of Tarot, Belote and Rami...
I have already tried  to play online with bots, only with a 48 cards deck.
I  think playing with 48 cards only is better for me to learn the basics.
Is it possible to plays games here on this site ? If not, can you tell me about the best sites to play on without getting thrown out because I would unavoidably make blunders ?  Big Grin

When I was a bit younger Tongue , I played hearts (winning tricks game), rummy & poker.  Pinochle was, as you say,  totally unknown.  I started playing dd Pinochle online with bots  at https://worldofcardgames.com › double-deck-pinochle.  I started reading the forums here on discussion, offense & defense to learn how to recognize and play different situations.  Now I sometimes play with non-bots Smile (same site)  and try to apply what I've learned on the forums.  Because of my poor memory and lack of precision with the mouse I make blunders, but I haven't been thrown out yet.  Actually, you won't get thrown out, you may get comments like "Wow, look what he's doing!", when I had a lot of trump as defense.  It was probably a terrible blunder.

Update: It was probably a terrible blunder. Later I found a post by  ToreadorElder where he talks about offesive  and defensive hands (Thanks Mayra).  What I meant by "defense" was I wasn't the winning bidder. What I would like to see as a beginner is a post that defines the Pinochle vocabulary & abreviations: sandbagging, LTS, LHO, etc. Internet search only brings up meld descriptions and rule variations.

The ToreadorElder post is http://www.powerpinochle.com/forum/showt...164#pid164 , well worth reading, about 10 times.
